Six miners killed in gas blast in southeastern Ukraine
Six miners were killed in a gas blast in southeastern Ukraine early Saturday, a local rescue squad spokesman said.
The blast occurred at a depth of 590 m in the Duvannaya mine in Ukraine's Lugansk Region, when there were 119 miners in the shaft.

Afghan, U.S. forces killed 25 Taliban, 8 civilians
Afghan and U.S.-led coalition forces killed 25 Taliban insurgents and eight civilians after an ambush in southern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said on Monday.
The issue of civilian casualties has led to a rift between Afghanistan and its Western allies with President Hamid Karzai saying on Sunday that foreign airstrikes had only succeeded in killing ordinary Afghans and would not defeat the insurgency.

U.S. soldier, 17 Iraqis killed in suicide blast
A suicide bomber detonated explosives Sunday amid U.S. and Iraqi troops who were investigating an earlier attack. Iraqi police said nearly 20 people died, and the U.S. military said they included one American soldier.
It was the day's worst attack among several that occurred across Iraq, including one at a crowded bus depot in Baghdad that left four people dead.
